Reality DC

The Data Center: A Step-by-Step Guide, from Design to Operation

Reality DC is Cadence's platform for data centers. It covers the design of a new space, an overview of equipment and capacity during operations, and the physics-based model that shows the impact of a change before it is implemented.

3,600+ installations throughout the Nordics

HOW IT CONNECTS

One model that adapts to the space

1. The design process creates the model

In the design phase, the space is laid out with cooling systems, power distribution, and equipment. This is where the major decisions are made, and where it is least expensive to make changes.

2. The operations department keeps it up to date

Once the room is operational, Insight takes over. Equipment, capacity, and power paths are recorded so that the model accurately reflects the room as it currently stands.

3. Physics answers the “what if” question

With Digital Twin, the operating model can be simulated using CFD. A new installation or a failure is tested in the model before it occurs in reality.

The challenge

It costs you time and money

  • The data center is designed using one tool and operated using another
  • Capacity is calculated in spreadsheets that do not match
  • The consequences of a change are not known until it has been made
  • Support responses that take days

The solution

We give you control back

  • The same platform from design to operation
  • Power, cooling, space, and networking—all in one place
  • Changes are tested in the model first
  • Local hotline with responses from a specialist on the same day

THE FULL SUITE

A data center is designed to operate for many years. The decisions made regarding it must last just as long.

Ready?

Ready to design with peace of mind?

A brief conversation is usually enough to determine which part of Reality DC is right for your situation—and whether you’re setting up a new facility or one that’s already up and running. No sales pitch. No pressure. Just an open conversation about your data center.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

It depends on where you are in the process. If you’re planning to build or renovate, it’s Design. If the facility is already operational, it’s Insight—in the form of Asset Twin, if you need an overview of equipment and capacity, and Digital Twin, if you also want to be able to calculate cooling requirements and downtime.

Asset Twin keeps track of equipment, power, space, weight, and networks. Digital Twin can do all of the same things and also calculates airflow and temperature using CFD, so a change can be tested before it is implemented.

That is the idea behind bringing it all together on a single platform, and the model from the design phase can serve as the starting point for the operational model. How much can be reused depends on how closely the built space matches the design.

Yes. The platform is based on Future Facilities’ data center simulation software, which had been used by data center operators for many years before Cadence acquired the company in 2022.
